Matilda Rodgers. Artist.

“Art was always a part of our lives as kids because Mum was always creating around us. She never pushed us into creating though, but we always had any materials we needed lying around the house. And if we needed any advice, Mum was there to help.

My Mum inspires me so much, and not just because she is an Artist, but because of who she is as a person. She encourages me to work harder, to think deeper; and she is so resilient and hard working, which makes me want to be the best I can be too.

I don’t think I’m interested in making political statements in my work, at least not at the moment. I prefer to explore the simple mundane things; like little features of people that make them unique.
I especially love the idea of small details up close and on a huge scale, allowing people to also examine the intricacies – especially in hands. And I think my perfectionist style lends itself to these kinds of explorations. Also I think this is more intriguing and ambiguous than a regular portrait.”

Thank you Matlida.
