Almost a full year since I was on the start line of an event. I’m still working my way back from a meniscus tear, excited none the less to be bibbed up!

Being mid-winter in the deep south, despite the leisurely and late 10am start, it was a flipping cold start. But.. Lee, Nath and I, all running the 10km distance, we know this trail well and the first hill warms you up smartly!

I really enjoy this course and the Lake2Lake Trail. Built to accomodate users on two wheels or two legs, it’s pretty smooth and runnable throughout, although definitely not flat. I packed my heavy DSLR camera and plan to carry it in my large vest, convinced I’d be taking it easy and will have time to stop and take photos. I should haven known better. I get caught up in the start and end up setting a decent pace. Despite the extra weight I feel good and don’t want to stop!

Wonderful to see so many locals and run-friends from Queenstown out running this race. Seeing our Kepler legend Irene Barnes standing on the finish line was certainly a highlight and it was wonderful to receive my medal from her. Great to sport Nath and Lee at the marque cheering me in too. Both finishing well ahead of me and having had a great race!

Doesn’t take long for the heat to disappear. We cool down quickly and so so I pull my puffer jacket and camera out of my run vest and look for familiar faces crossing the line.

Finish line vibes are my fave. Congrats everyone!
