Established in October of 2023, it’s been more than a year of Monday night Te Anau Group Runs. We’ve had wonderfully big turn outs, and some weeks there have been as few as three of us. We’ve run in blazing heat, crazy wind, and freezing rain.
Our 5:30pm starts meant Winter runs took pack in pitch darkness and we were very grateful this year to receive some community funding from Te Hau Toka, and together with a generous discount from Mountain Adventures, we were able to buy a set of torches to loan out and keep runners active through Winter, and safer in the dark.
The Summer seasons, especially toward the end of this year, saw lots of seasonal workers and tourists join in. We have loved the diversity of the runners and getting to know people from, quite literally, all over the world. We have loved seeing connections be made and support shown for one another within the crew – particularly when training for and competing in events, or when injured. It’s been bloody epic!
Highlight for me was definitely the Christmas run and BBQ. A most excellent way to finish the year and chill out together with venison sausages, homemade pickles, beer and ice-cream.
Here’s to an awesome summer and 2025!
